It is reported that Michael Jackson may not have invented the Moonwalk, his signature dance step.
His sister, LaToya, has very helpfully claimed on a British TV show hosted by Frank Skinner that a dancer from the TV show Soul Train taught him the step.
LaToya claims that it was called the backslide, Michael changed the name after learning its routine.
Doubtless this will provide another opportunity for litigation.
The legal fraternity must be licking their lips.
Are you kidding me? You mean you thought Michael Jackson invented the "moonwalk"? When did Michael make this claim? I had always heard that he gave credit to Jeffrey Daniel and/or Derek "Cooley" Jackson. Daniel and Jackson, along with another dancer premiered the moonwalk (previously known as the backslide) on the U.S. tv show Soul Train circa 1980-81. Daniel debuted the move on British tv in 1982. Inner city youth, like myself, had already incorporated the move into our electric boogaloo/poplocking breakdancing routines a least a year before Michael "debuted" it on Motown 25.
